MACRA and MIPS
The Quality Payment Program (QPP) was created through the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) to nullify Medicare’s Sustainable Growth Rate and alter clinician payment rates. Clinicians are now evaluated and rewarded for value over volume by participating through the streamlined QPP incentive program. Participation could be achieved through two methods: the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) or Advanced Alternative Payment Models (AMPs).
