Pain Awareness Tied to Opioid Use
Since 2001, September has become the month when multiple organizations work on raising pain awareness by casting light on the issues patients often face when it comes to pain and pain management.
Various methods can be used for pain treatment. Yet despite their diverse benefits, there are always potential risks. This is the case of medication treatment that may lead to addiction to drugs like Opioids, if mismanaged.
Opioid misuse is now one of the leading causes of death in America, taking its toll on 90 Americans each day, the National Institute of Health declared.
It goes without saying that Opioids shows high effectiveness in treating different chronic pain syndromes related to cancer, muscle pain, arthritis, and neuropathic, for instance.
However, this method of treatment mostly puts patients at risk of developing an Opioid use disorder when trying to manage pain.
For this reason, the American Chronic Pain Association emphasizes the importance of raising public awareness regarding the challenges in pain management every year.
The ACPA encourages all individuals to get involved in promoting pain awareness, either by making donations, reaching out to local leaders, informing the public through social media, or simply talking to friends and family about the issues of pain and pain management.
