Alcohol Awareness Month
Every year during the month of April the National Council for Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) sponsors a month to bring light to a problem that affects the nation: alcoholism. The campaign aims to increase awareness and understanding of the causes and treatment of alcohol abuse. The ultimate goal is to end the stigma that is associated with alcohol addiction by educating the public about the impact that unsafe consumption has.
This year’s campaign is aimed at adolescents and young adults along with their parents who have a huge role in their child’s relationship with alcohol. Underage drinking is a tremendous problem as it is the most widely used substance among America’s youth therefore, it is crucial that this audience is educated and engaged in this month of awareness. As for parents, one of the biggest factors that play a role in the likelihood that a child will develop a substance abuse problem is strong parental disapproval of alcohol and other drug use. Showing support and being able to talk openly with your children is important.
No one is excluded from this month as anyone could benefit from learning more, if you are looking to get involved in Alcohol Awareness Month the NCADD encourages communities to come together and host events.
