ACS, NSQIP and MBSAQIP (Bariatric)

HIA guarantees a minimum 95% accuracy rate for medical record review services. Organization-wide performance improvement initiatives are focused on improving operations, program efficiency, and effectiveness.

The “American College of Surgeons’ National Surgical Quality Improvement Program” (ACS NSQIP) database is a nationally validated risk-adjusted program designed to measure surgical outcomes. It’s proven to prevent an average of 250 to 500 surgical complications per hospital per year, saving 12 to 36 patient lives while reporting and comparing quality measures and reducing costs by millions.

NSQIP utilizes patient records rather than billing data or claims to analyze institution-level quality data. The use of risk-adjusted data, taking into consideration patient demographics and populations, among others, allows an “apples to apples” comparison between hospitals.

Over time, hospitals using NSQIP will see lasting benefits, motivating a cohesive and self-directed workforce towards increased patient safety, better clinical outcomes, improved bottom line, and enhanced reputation of hospitals and systems of any scale, allowing identifiable opportunities to feed ACS NSQIP data to relevant groups and meetings (for example: Infection control, quality management, and administration).

  • Demonstrates applicability of the methodology and the reliability of definitions utilized by reviewers within the program through Inter‐Rater Reliability (IRR) testing.
  • Identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection process.
  • Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the Program.
  • Utilizes software applications for data collection and analysis.
